COVID-19 and vaccines topic of March 24 Mount Olive webinar
MOUNT OLIVE TWP. – Want to learn more about everything COVID-19 and the new vaccinations available to combat it?
Then join Township Council President Joe Nicastro and Councilman Greg Stewart when, in cooperation with the Hackettstown Medical Center, they host a free “Understanding COVID-19 and the Vaccine” virtual workshop at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24.
Nicastro and Stewart will be joined by infectious disease physicians Dr. Donald T. Allegra and Dr. Edward McManus.
The workshop is intended to help participants gain a better understanding of the disease, the vaccine, the vaccination process and other issues. A 20-minute overview will be followed by a discussion.
The topic is one that Nicastro on Sunday said was certainly one of interest to him, as he himself had battled the coronavirus in December.
“Having experienced Covid in late December it was of interest to me to find out more about the vaccine and I have questions myself like when can I get the vaccine if I had Covid? How long do the antibodies last?,” he said.
Nicastro, however, said he was “one of the fortunate ones” in that, when combatting the virus, “I experienced the aches and pain, mild fever and very tired as well loss of taste and smell but never had any respiratory issues and fully recovered in a couple of weeks.”
Nicastro said he had “been floating the idea of holding a monthly open forum” on different topics, when Stewart suggested the topic.
“I felt there would be many people that might have questions that can be answered,” he said.
As it turned out, Stewart sits on the board of Hackettstown Medical Center, and was able to reach out to enlist physicians. So it was they obtained Allegra and McManus, who are founding members of ID Care, a network of doctors specializing in infectious diseases.
Allegra and McManus are also affiliated with the major hospitals in the area, including Morristown Medical Center, St. Clare’s and Hackettstown Medical Center. An ID Care office is also located in Randolph.
Nicastro said he plans on holding future forums in the coming months. Possible topics, he said, are the new marijuana law, recycling programs, and one on the township’s parks, including the new Valley Brook Park and possible plans for Budd Lake improvements.
